Description

The Marine Essentials is a Shopify-based eCommerce store supplying anodes, anchors, dock products, boat fenders, mooring accessories, and marine hardware to recreational boat owners, DIY maintainers, waterfront property owners, and trade buyers across the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. They carry recognised marine brands including Martyr, Rocna, Panther, Dock Edge, Titan Marine, and CMP Cordage across 451 products. Their buyers are high-intent and problem-aware — searching for a specific anode size, a replacement part, or a protection product they need before the next time they take the boat out.

When Profit Drive took over the Google Ads account on 24 February 2026, the previous agency was reporting approximately $1 million in revenue at ROAS figures between 24 and 51. The commercial opportunity was real. The account being run to capture it was not. Every figure in the previous reporting was a tracking artifact — and the business had no way of knowing.

Case overview

  • Establish What Is Actually True — Before any campaign work could begin, conversion tracking had to be rebuilt from scratch. No optimisation is possible until the measurement is honest.
  • Stop the Bleeding Before Scaling — Monthly spend was reduced from approximately $4,100 to $2,000 while the account was rebuilt. There is no value in scaling a broken campaign.
  • Back What the Data Shows Is Working — With accurate tracking in place, the data identified the revenue engine immediately. Budget was concentrated there and the account began to compound.

The scale of the tracking problem only became clear when purchase-only data was isolated. In October 2025, the account recorded 21,458 raw conversions. Of those, 12,863 were shopping app page views, 7,900 were item views, 195 were add-to-carts, and 156 were begin-checkouts. Actual completed purchases: 41, generating $13,549 CAD. The account was reporting all 21,458 events as conversions with inflated values — producing the appearance of strong performance while losing money on every real transaction.

Across the three months before Profit Drive's involvement, the account spent $12,295 CAD and generated 29 real purchases producing $8,289 in actual sales — a real ROAS of 0.67. December 2025 was the worst month: $4,094 in spend, $1,760 in real sales. When Profit Drive took over in February 2026, the conversion tracking was stripped back and rebuilt around the Purchase action only. Every figure from that point forward reflects completed transactions.

With accurate tracking in place for the first time, the data immediately showed where the real opportunity was. Anodes — shaft, rudder, outboard, sterndrive, hull, and engine anodes across Martyr's range — were the category with the strongest buyer intent and most consistent purchase behaviour. The Anodes Performance Max campaign was rebuilt and became the focus of the account's budget. Two campaigns producing no real sales were identified and deprioritised. The account structure simplified around what the data said was working.

The results compounded quickly. In March 2026, the first full month under Profit Drive management, real ROAS reached 2.05 — already three times the previous agency's 0.67. By the last 30 days to 25 May 2026, the account generated $11.8k CAD at 4.86 ROAS from $2.44k in spend. In the most recent 14 days to 25 May 2026, ROAS reached 8.06, producing $10.1k from $1.26k in spend. The account that was losing money on every dollar spent 90 days ago is now running at 8x return.

What We Delivered

The Google Ads engagement for The Marine Essentials, beginning 24 February 2026, covered a full conversion tracking audit and rebuild, removal of all non-purchase conversion events, campaign restructure around genuine buyer intent, Performance Max build and optimisation focused on the anodes category, spend reduction and reallocation, identification and deprioritisation of budget-leaking campaigns, and ongoing performance reporting on real purchase conversions only.

The next phase focuses on scaling the Anodes campaign, building coverage for Rocna anchors and dock products, and improving the product feed across the wider catalogue.

  • Truth before scale — No campaign improvement is possible until the measurement is honest. That is always the first job.
  • Half the spend, better results — Spend was cut from $4,100 to $2,000 per month. Revenue more than doubled. Less waste, not less ambition.
  • Follow the data — Accurate tracking revealed the anodes category as the revenue engine. Concentrating budget there is why the account went from 0.67 to 8.06 ROAS in 90 days.

The first thing we do when we inherit a broken account is establish what is actually true. In this case the client was spending $4,100 a month and generating $1,760 in real sales without knowing it. Ninety days later the account is running at 8.06 ROAS and climbing every week.
